Quayside care home have been busy with some gardeningResidents at Quayside, nursing and nursing dementia care home, in Glasgow, have been getting their garden ready for summer.

Margaret Archibald, Margaret Trainor, Betty Brookmyre, and Anne Smith the Wellbeing Coordinator have been busy planting summer and flower seeds and bulbs for the gardens and the raised beds.

One of the Residents, remarked, “It’s been a while since I did some gardening, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. I am glad to see things getting re-used, I hate waste.”

Some of the Residents recalled planting vegetables at home. Anne thought it would be a great idea to combine the gardening with an upcycling project to create a kitchen garden.

Using bain-maries which were going to be thrown away, the Residents used herb and vegetable seeds to make their kitchen garden. Once the vegetables have grown the Resident will be able to make their own salads.

The Residents enjoy gardening and loved getting involved in their favourite hobby.

Anne, added, “We are always on the lookout for things we can re-use and this was an ideal project to ger the Residents involved with some gardening and doing our bit to reduce waste.”
