Residents at Park House welcome new friends and enjoy a musical afternoonResidents at Park House, residential and residential dementia care home in Guisborough, have had lots of fun throughout the month of April, welcoming in some new friends and enjoying an afternoon filled with music and laughter.

On the 24th April, the North East Theatre Productions brought their spring show ‘Mother Knows Best’.

The show told the story of a young girl called Caroline who had become a cookery teacher and her “old mum” who had trained her. The girls acted out the story well and it was written to lead into songs and dance routines, which they both performed.

The Residents knew all the songs and were more than happy to join in and do some actions with the cast. The play was funny as well as being musical and a lot of the Residents were on board with the humour and joined in well.

Once again for the spring Residents and Colleagues hatched own chicks.

The incubator arrived on the Monday and the chicks started hatching the very next day. The Residents were fascinated watching them hatch and sat just watching them once they were transferred to their brood box.

The chicks brought a lot of joy and the Residents enjoyed holding them, it is a very tactile activity, and it also meant a lot to the Residents who are partially sighted, or blind could hold them and feel how small and soft they were. Some of the Residents also noticed on holding them later that they had grown little feathers, and this made them smile.

Successfully 10 out of 10 eggs hatched and there are 10 healthy chicks to care for.

Julie Woods, Care Home Manager, remarked, “The Residents love the chicks each year when we hatch them. It always brings a lot of pleasure and smiles to their faces.”
