Ridgeway Lodge Care Home Residents enjoy school children visitsResidents at HC-One’s Ridgeway Lodge Care Home in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, have been enjoying a series of visits by schoolchildren from nearby Hadrian Academy.

Since May, over 60 school children have been regularly chatting and playing games with the Residents of the 61-bed residential and residential dementia care home.

Particular highlights include a school choir performance in the care home’s garden, and a return visit by some of the Residents to Hadrian Academy to watch the school children take part in the schools’ end of term ‘colour run’ fun run. Some of the school children also helped brighten up the Residents’ rooms by drawing them colourful pictures.

The schoolchildren proved to be a big hit with both Residents and Colleagues. Frank Walsh, Resident at Ridgeway Lodge Care Home, said:
“It has been so much fun spending time with the children.”

Michele Tricker, Care Home Manager, said:
“At HC-One we see intergenerational activities as a really important way to help improve and maintain good mental and physical health, so we are very grateful to the teachers and school children of Hadrian Academy for their time and enthusiasm.

“The Residents and schoolchildren both got so much out of this experience, it has been amazing to see.”
