All sorts of exciting activities have been happening at
St James’ Park care home, in Bradpole, Bridport, this month, including making bird feeders, experimenting with food, celebrating special events and visiting the Dorset countryside.
Being located in the beautiful county of Dorset, nestled in the hills near the famous Jurassic Coast, St James’ Park are very lucky to see an abundance of beautiful birds every day. Residents have recently been helping all the parent birds, who are currently busy feeding their young, by making and hanging nesting materials and bird feeders around the grounds. Everyone is eagerly waiting to see birds come and feed.
Barry said, "Every day, I watch the birds at my room window; they're so gentle."
Following on, a cocktail-making session took place this month, with Residents sampling various drinks and scoring them out of ten. The scores were tallied, and the overall favourite was 'Pimms Royal!'
Residents and Colleagues at the 31-bed residential and nursing care home all got in the mood with music and cocktail party outfits, plus the sun was shining which added to the tropical theme!
Staying with the tasty food and drink theme, the kitchen team have been very busy too by experimenting with 'Colours on the plate.' Aiming to create colourful dishes that not only taste amazing but look fantastic too.
Joan, who lives at St James' Park, said, "Not only is it very tasty, but the food looks very nice, and we have a variety of choices!”
On 10th May, Simon, Christine and Pam, who all live at St James' Park, enjoyed a tour around the Dorset countryside in the minibus to see the fields of bright yellow rapeseed and woods carpeted with these beautiful bluebells.
The sun was shining, and Residents enjoyed looking at the spring flowers and admiring the range of colours.
Pam said, "This is very nice! It reminds me of my childhood.”

As part of International Nurses Day, which took place on Friday 12th May, everyone was celebrating the incredible work and achievements of nurses at St James Park.
Colleagues created a photo board showing pictures of Colleagues and Residents. One of the Residents, Christine, has had a remarkable career in nursing being at the forefront of designing and building Bridport Hospital. Colleagues displayed some photos of her career on the board; as a newly qualified RGN to Matron and Manager. Christine said, "Yes, I remember those days, it was very nice, and I always did things fully, not halfway.”
St James’ Park also have some nursing memorabilia and a great picture of Home Manager, Mihaela, in her uniform back when she was newly qualified.
Mihaela commented, “Happy International Nurses Day to each and every nurse out there. My passion for nursing brings me closer to people. As always, we had an amazing day here at St James Park.”
