Residents at
Harnham Croft care home, in Salisbury, have enjoyed an afternoon in the sun for the home’s Summer Fete, ‘Open Day’ complete with barbecue.
A fantastic time was had by all with lots of reminiscing, great conversations and an array of food and activities to choose from.
The home’s Chef, Nigel, and Kitchen Assistant, Debbie, cooked and served some delightful barbecue food for Residents, Colleagues, Relatives and friends of the home. The selection included burgers, sausages, chicken, corn on the cob, rice and coleslaw, as well as an array of vegetarian options such as skewers.
Pat, who is a Resident of the 38-bed residential and nursing care home, said, “The corn on the cob was just delicious, thank you Nigel!”
Pimms and fruit punch was also offered to anyone who fancied a tipple, as well as a lovely strawberry cheesecake for pudding.
It was a wonderful day enjoyed by all and complete with a tombola, raffle. ‘Guess the weight of the cake’, ‘Guess the name of the teddy’ and ‘How many sweets are in the jar?’ All proceeds went towards the home’s Residents fund.
Residents commented that they had a lovely day and that it was a great change to have lunch outside in the garden (complete with sunny weather!)
Lynn, who also lives at Harnham Croft, remarked, “I cannot remember the last time I had a barbecue. It brings back so many memories.”
Jim Bowie, Home Manager, added, “I want to say what a great success today’s open day, barbecue and simmer fete has been. We have made some very happy Residents, who are still talking about the day!”
“A special thank you to Nigel for being the barbecue king and to Jenna, Kelly and Kim (Colleagues) for their support in setting up and managing the stalls. And everyone else that supported an absolutely brilliant day.”
