Sunshine sparks friendships at Market Lavington care homeAfter a period of dismal weather in North Wiltshire where they had three successive storms and weeks of cold, grey days and persistent rain, 18th March was the first day where it has been warm enough for Residents at Market Lavington residential, nursing and residential dementia care home, in Devizes, to enjoy time outside and get some fresh air.

So, Riaz Ali, Wellbeing Coordinator, jumped at the chance and began organising a lovely afternoon sitting outside with Residents Dennis Scullard and Douglas Murray, in the courtyard where they sat for a good forty minutes.

Riaz commented, “The two Residents had not had the opportunity of meeting previously and to be in the position of listening and joining in with their naturally flowing conversation was wonderful.”

Riaz brought a guitar and some lyric books to have a bit of accompanying music, if the Residents wanted, but they became so engaged with each other, it was not necessary!

Douglas said, “Probably the highlight of my week! So nice to have this change in the weather! And lovely to meet other Residents.”

Dennis added, “Thank you. It was so good to be outside. Lovely to meet Douglas. I have always enjoyed meeting new people.”

The conversation flowed easily, and their life stories unravelled, and those beautiful moments of shared experiences occurred.

When they parted, Douglas said to Dennis, “This won’t be the last time we will meet!”

Riaz remarked, “It’s those kind of moments that touch my heart in a way that is hard to describe. The two instantly became firm friends. The forecast looks very hopeful for the next week or so and I am looking forward to bringing more Residents out over the coming days!”
