The Harefield care home Resident enjoys developing his poetry talentsA Resident at HC-One’s The Harefield care home, in Uxbridge, Middlesex, has been rediscovering his love of and talent for poetry.

Peter Sparrow used to be a prolific poet as a young man, and since he joined The Harefield as a Resident the Wellbeing Coordinator, James, has helped to encourage this hobby as much as possible. James has assisted Pete in writing numerous different poems, from haikus to limericks and sonnets, and these are now in a dedicated 'poetry corner' of Peter's room at the 40-bed care home offering nursing and nursing dementia care.

Peter has also been encouraged to read out his poetry for others, and James has taken Peter to a mid-week church service at local St. Mary's Church where he has been reading out his poetry to the congregation. Peter has also attended a dedicated poetry-reading event at the local ‘We Love Coffee’ cafĂ©.

Talking about his recent poetry exploits, Pete said: “I really enjoyed attending the poetry event and socialising with the other poets sharing their work.”

Father Martin Davies, of St, Mary’s Church, said: “I think Pete is a very talented poet and I always looks forward to hearing what he has to say.”

Home Manager Rebekah Axford commented: “This is a lovely way to engage with our local community, I am a big fan of Pete’s writing.”
