Using old recipes to bake delicious cakes at Gittisham Hill HouseGittisham Hill House care home, in Honiton, Devon, has their very own baking club and this week they have tried out one of the Residents’ own recipes. And it went down very well!

Pam, who lives at the 38-bed residential, nursing and dementia care home, used to write short stories for children, as well as poetry and recipe books. She kindly shared with the baking club her cakes recipe.

Colleague Jill and Pam baked the cakes using Pam’s recipe and then decorated them beautifully (see pictured).

Jill then read one of Pam’s short stories to the group and recited a poem to them too, which was very well received by all involved.

The group reminisced about making cakes with their families and admired that the recipe that was used was from many decades ago.

Julia Heneker, Care Home Manager, remarked, “It was lovely listening to Jill read these out to Residents.”
