HC-One's The Harefield care home, in Uxbridge, Hillingdon, West London, organised a memorable day trip to the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon on Tuesday, April 20, bringing joy to two residents Michael Coady and Stephen Cann, accompanied by his wife.
The specially arranged excursion was led by Jayne Holland, the care home's driver, who recognised the importance of providing meaningful experiences for residents. The trip was particularly significant for Stephen, an aviation enthusiast whose passion for aircraft made the museum visit especially rewarding.
The highlight of the day came when Stephen encountered the museum's Lancaster bomber, the largest aircraft on display. Stephen's face “lit up” when he saw the historic warplane, demonstrating the profound impact that personalised outings can have on residents' wellbeing and quality of life.
For Michael, who has no family members to arrange visits or outings, the trip represented a valuable opportunity to engage with the wider community.
Rebekah Axford, HC-One’s The Harefield Care Home Manager, said:
"Trips like this remind us how important it is to understand our residents' individual interests and passions.
“Seeing Stephen's excitement at the aircraft display and knowing that both he and Michael could enjoy this special day out reinforces why we go the extra mile to create these meaningful experiences.”
