When the zoo came to Barnard Castle care homeResidents at HC-One’s Beaconsfield Court, residential care home in Barnard Castle, were very excited to hear the zoo was coming to their home.

Rob from Zoolab the animal handling experience, brought an array of animals for the Residents to handle and learn all about including all the species and their habitats.

Rob brought with him Fred and Matilda the cockroaches, Elma the tortoise, Tilly the tarantula, Romeo the snake, Jasmine and Rosemary the rats, Shelly and Turbo the giant land snails, and Iceman and Maverick the millipedes.

The session was held in the ground floor lounge and there nine brave Residents who took part as well as some of the staff.

Each of the animals were taken to each the Residents so they could hold and take a closer look. Rob was answering all sorts of questions the Residents had for him and the Residents were so intrigued by each of the animals.

The Residents had such a great time and were all laughing when some of the staff feared the animals.

One Resident commented, “What an amazing experience to get up close to these animals.”

Laura Langridge, Care Home Manager, remarked, “Very educational visit for Residents and staff, our Residents were very brave in holding most animals.”
