Residents at HC-One’s
Kettlewell House care home in Woking got creative this April, with lots of celebrations to create decorations for.
During the course of April at Kettlewell House, Residents have been getting very creative making all sorts of things for various occasions.
For Queen Elizabeth's birthday on the 21st April, Residents made a large picture frame by painting red, white and blue stripes diagonally across it and stuck on pictures of the Queen and London.
On the day, Colleagues took photos together with Residents holding the frame up to send back home to families and friends to show they were having a great time. Residents also each had a glass of sherry, scones and yummy pastries to celebrate with the Queen.
For Saint George's Day, Residents had a lot of fun making a giant dragon out of balloons. Residents and Colleagues blew up over 20 balloons and bunched them together to make a dragon shape.
Making the body was successful and Residents all contributed to get the right shape, filling in all the gaps to disguise the stool legs it was stuck to. To make the head, tail, fire and claws Residents cut shapes out of cardboard and painted them.
When it was finally constructed everyone thought it might look a little silly and not like a dragon at all, but actually everyone was pleasantly surprised and felt proud of their work.
Later on in the month, Residents also made sun catchers and did some pottery painting. Both activities Residents found to be very therapeutic and relaxing. It was nice to make things that were going to be used and appreciated in the home.
The sun catchers looked great hanging up in front of a window and the pots are being saved to plant flowers in next month.
Residents enjoyed working as a team to make the giant dragon and the satisfaction they got when he was done. He stood proudly in the homes quiet lounge guarding the door.
