Dudley Residents remember fallen heroesColleagues and residents at Ashgrove care home, in Dudley, marked Remembrance Day in a very special way this year.

Everyone watched the annual ceremony on the BBC as it was a little unusual this year. People at the home had contributed to the poppy cross and told tales of their families. A lot of stories told were from the Residents’ points of view as children back in the 30s and 40s. Residents told of how their fathers came back as strangers and one or two of them never did. Some told stories of sons and brothers who were in other wars as well as stories about the Royal Family and their role throughout history.

It was an emotional occasion but nonetheless very liked.

Pearl Raybould, Resident, remarked, “The Queen is a symbol of hope.”

Another Resident, Alan Pollard, added, “Sacrifices should never be forgotten.”

Colleague Jane Pearson, said, “It is so moving to hear the different memories evoked.”
