Durham care home Residents get creative in new art classResidents at HC-One’s Melbury Court care home in Durham have enjoyed getting creative during the homes new art class that is held on Melbury Court’s Grace Unit.

With activities starting to return to Melbury Court, Colleagues at the home decided to restart art classes for Residents. Care Assistant Lucian Catana, who is a trained art teacher, helped set up the afternoon. Lucian had printed mandala pictures out but also drew some pictures to add colour to as well. The ladies enjoyed the afternoon and especially watching Lucian drawing.

Melbury Court Resident, Norah Metcalfe said: “I was so impressed with Lucians artistic talents.”

Jimmy Beadle, a Resident at Melbury Court enjoyed colouring in pictures by numbers and said it was nice to have this afternoon back and starting arts and crafts sessions again.

Arts sessions are important for Residents as it helps relax them and provides a sense of control. It also helps to reduce depression and anxiety as it assists with socialisation and improves cognition.
