Falkirk care home Residents enjoy a game of catch with new sensory ballResidents at HC-One’s Kinnaird Manor care home in Falkirk recently enjoyed a good old-fashioned game of catch in the home’s activities room.

Kinnaird Manor Colleagues recently purchased a brand-new sensory ball for Residents at the home. Sensory stimulation is intended to bring enjoyment to the elderly, along with reducing their anxiety and depression, and increasing their social interaction.

Kinnaird Manor Resident, Margaret Martin was a little unsure of the ball at first, but soon joined in for a little game. The ball has many different textures and encourages Residents to join in and enjoy the fun. “I loved playing catch with the ball, it was very fluffy,” said Margaret.

Other Residents, including Charlie Read, really enjoyed the game of catch and got very competitive.  “I have really enjoyed using the ball, it reminded me of when I used to play football when I was heading it.”

The new sensory ball seems to have been a hit with Residents. It has helped encourage them to get active and join in with other Residents, helping their social skills.

Kinnaird Manor Care Assistant, Yvonne said: “Its lovely to see resident who don't generally engage much playing along and laughing.”
