Newcastle care home Residents do the hula at Hawaiian themed party nightResidents and Colleagues at HC-One’s Fleming Court care home in Newcastle enjoyed a Tropical Hawaiian Party Night on Friday 4th September.

Residents helped decorate the main lounge with handmade and shop bought decorations, which included; disco lights, fairy lights, handmade buntings and tropical table decorations.

Residents Beryl Hewitt, Denise Tebbutt, Vera Turner and Mary Smith helped Chelsea, one of Fleming Courts wellbeing coordinators, to make tropical fruit kebabs. These included all of the favourite’s flavours, peach, pineapple, mango and strawberries.

The same group also helped Fleming Courts other wellbeing coordinator Kate, make tropical cocktails and mocktails later on in the day. Residents chose traditional Pimm's for their alcoholic cocktails and mango and passionfruit for their non-alcoholic versions, all mixed up with fresh strawberries, frozen mango and topped off with fancy straws and cocktail umbrellas.

The party began at 5pm with Residents arriving to party tunes such as Beach Boys -Good Vibrations and Chubby Checker - Lets Twist Again. Cocktails and fruit kebabs were served at 5:50pm and then the dancing begun, hula style.

Fleming Court care home Resident, Vera said: “Everyone has worked so hard. Here's to everyone's happiness and good health. Let’s have a great night.”

Residents had a variety of fancy-dress options including grass skirts, flower garlands, beach hats and Hawaiian shirts, everyone looked so tropical so Colleagues made their own photo booth props earlier in the week and took some amazing photos for the homes scrap book.

Fleming Court Home Manager Rachel Rennie-Doran said: “Smashing to see everyone enjoying themselves. The party has been a big lift for everyone's spirits during this difficult time.”
