Newcastle care home Residents take part in BT companion schemeResidents at HC-One’s Sutherland Court care home in Newcastle-upon-Tyne have been benefitting from BT’s Care Home Companion scheme which aims to help tackle loneliness in care home Residents.

Sutherland Court received a designated mobile which the BT volunteers call to speak to Residents in the home. Numerous Residents have now taken part and all have been delighted with the experience, Eveline commented that she was nervous at first but the volunteer she spoke was lovely and easy to chat to.

Irene said she wouldn’t know what to talk about but then discovered that the volunteer she spoke with came from the same area of Newcastle and both of their fathers worked at the same place.

Sutherland Court Home Manager, Karen Stewart said: “The team at Sutherland Court had found that some Residents couldn’t enjoy video calls but find talking on the phone easier which has made the calls from BT volunteers even more appreciated during these difficult times.”
