Rummage boxes and activity stations at Wigan care homeThese past few weeks, Colleagues at Ashton View residential memory care, nursing and nursing memory care home, in Lancashire, have been gathering items such as jewellery, scarves, hats and shopping bags and then setting up stations in Gerard Community known as ‘rummage boxes’.

The boxes are on all floors and are made up to encourage Residents who like to have a little walk around the home, there is a dressing table set up and lots more jewellery coming very soon.

The home was also donated some lovely shopping bags and a shopping trolley to go with the activity.

Stacey Sharples, Wellbeing Coordinator, commented, “Some Residents came up with ideas of what they’d like to see in the rummage boxes and it was great to see everyone involved.

Kath, a Resident at Ashton View, said, “The scarves are beautiful and it is such a lovely idea for the ladies to be able to borrow them.”

Fellow Resident, Margaret, loved the shopping bags and said the shopping trolley would save her carrying all her heavy food when she has been to the supermarket.

The rummage boxes are being used daily and being restocked when activity packs are taken from them.

Stacey added, “These stations and boxes are great. It’s so nice to see our ladies and gents picking up things such as puzzles and pens and then going to sit with other Residents for a joint, for example, crossword or word search.”

“It also helps our Residents to keep busy and stimulate them to do something when they’ve got a minute.”
