Sheffield care home Residents have a fun-filled day of activitiesSwallownest residential and nursing care home, in Sheffield, have had a very busy day today, indeed, with balloon tennis as well as garden preparations for spring.

Ralph Spencer and Beatrice Shields, both Residents at Swallownest, had so much fun today playing balloon tennis in the lounge, see pictured.

The home’s Wellbeing Coordinator, Dawn, commented, “We had a few Residents in the lounge today, so we decided to incorporate keep fit with fun!”

One of the Residents said, “Well I can’t remember laughing so much! This game is great fun”

The Residents were very competitive playing this game and it created so much fun

Ralph remarked, “Glad to know I’ve still got it!” (As he did a grand job hitting the balloons).

Amanda Fields, Home Manager, said, “The lounge was full of laughter today it was lovely to hear them having so much fun!”

“We were all puffed out after our balloon tennis so a cup of tea was in order!”

Also, today, Colleagues and Residents had a discussion as to what they would like to grow in the home’s greenhouse and, after buying seeds and bulbs, they began planting them into trays and pots.”

Residents Chrissie Mozley and Keith Hutton, pictured, were getting well and truly into the gardening spirit (see pictured).

Keith talked everyone through how to look after the seeds once they had been planted. He said, “I used to be a keen gardener but I haven’t been able to do any a lately so it is so nice to get my hands dirty again. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to get involved in gardening again.”

Amanda added, “We have ordered a small greenhouse for Keith so he can grow some vegetables with the help from the wellbeing team.”

“Being able to help Keith rekindle his love for gardening has been a pleasure for us all and he is already planning what he can grow in his greenhouse.”
