Sheffield care home Residents keep fit and enjoy first outingAt Swallownest residential and nursing care home, in South Yorkshire, Residents have been getting involved in keep fit classes as well as making the most of restrictions lifting.

Residents are attending keep fit classes in the different units, which take place at least 3 times a week. Chris Parker, who lives at the home, has taken it one step further and has chosen to use hand weights too. Together with Colleagues, he has been doing these classes four times a week and he is really enjoying them! He commented, “I am very determined at the moment and I am even using my hand weights in my room in-between our classes.”

Another Resident added, “I must say I am now starting to find the exercises a bit easier.”

Amanda Fields, Home Manager, commented, “These classes are ideal for our Residents and as well as the benefits to mobility, the Residents seem to be enjoying them!”

Also, this week, Residents we were allowed to go for a walk to the local café and sit outside. Colleagues phoned ahead to reserve a table and the café was very helpful and accommodating. It was a sunny day but a bit cool. All wrapped up two Colleagues and two Residents set off with much excitement.

The Residents, including Phyllis Birbeck. chose what they wanted with help from the lovely staff at the café. This included a toasted teacake and lemon drizzle cake, with a cup of tea of course!

Phyllis remarked, “This is just lovely, I am really enjoying being out thank you.”

“Today has been lovely I have really enjoyed going out and my cake was gorgeous.”

Amanda said, “The Residents looked lovely as they set off for their walk to the local café and they came back extremely happy. We, as a home, are delighted that our Residents can now go out.”
