Special guest suprises Gateshead care home Residents during VE day celebrationsResidents at HC-One’s Springfield House care home in Gateshead have been celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE day and had a visit from a very special guest.

Jack, the wellbeing coordinator at Springfield House dressed up as The Queen and she very kindly served all of the Residents their toast for Winston Churchills Speech.

Springfield House Resident Jim joked: “Oh my, is that what women look like now – I’ll not bother.”

Springfield House then fell silent as staff and Residents joined together to observe a minute’s silence and to remember those who gave so much.

Residents then enjoyed some food off the wartime menu which features dishes such as Oxford Soup, Bread and Butter pudding, home grown chips and some allotment beetroot. For dessert there was stewed seasonal fruit.

Springfield House Home Manager Kay Rudd said: “What a good laugh we’ve had today, VE Day quizzes, war time menu, and of course a very special visitor too.”
