Tackling communication barriers at Stevenage care homeAt HC-One, Colleagues always try and go that one step further to make sure Residents are happy, so when a member of the team made some communication cards for a Resident, there were smiles all around!

Una Green, a Colleague at Woodlands View care home, made Resident Nessa Ekramum some Bangladesh to English Communication Cards, as there was a language barrier. This has helped Nessa with interact with fellow Residents and Colleagues. 

Una commented, “We have enjoyed both helping and pronunciation of these cards. They have made a difference to Nessa, who smiles when reading them. It is lovely to see Nessa so happy.”

The home also have Bangladesh folk songs playing which everyone likes to dance to, including Nessa, who has a very gentle, sweet movement when she dances.

The home’s chef and catering staff have also helped Nessa settle in by making her traditional native style meals which she really does enjoy!

Home Manager, Deby O'Hare, said, “The whole team at Woodlands View has hopefully made Nessa's move into our home a smooth and reassuring process.”
