Tameside care home Resident crafts bird feedersOne Resident at HC-One’s Kings Park care home in Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester has enjoyed making birdseed fat balls to feed the local wildlife.

Harold struggles with his eyesight so he likes to spend his time outside, listening to the birds sing.

But with the cold weather today, he instead decided to make bird feeders with a cup of coffee and a few biscuits to keep warm.

Harold said: “I hope they like them, it’s nice to be out listening to them.”

As he crafted the fat balls using lard and bird seed, a very apt (They Long to be) Close to You by the Carpenters began playing as the radio sang “Why do birds suddenly appear”, much to Harold’s amusement.

Crafting the feeders was a perfect task for Harold as he enjoyed making something useful to the birds that he loves so much and Harold’s family was just as thrilled to hear he was taking part.

King Park Home Manager, Lisa Joy, commented: “Harold really enjoyed this activity as he loves to be outdoors.”
