The queen of Carrington Court at 102Even in the midst of the pandemic, it hasn’t stopped Residents and Colleagues at Carrington Court care home in Hindley, Manchester, from celebrating a very special lady’s 102nd birthday – twice!

Gladys Lee was born on 15th October 1918 but was accidentally registered as the 15th November 1918! So unlike millions of people in the UK, she actually has two birthdays and now has the title of ‘The Queen of Carrington’.

As 15th November is her registered birthday, Colleagues at Carrington, including Shirley Makin and Nicola Stott, put on a show fit their queen. A pamper day was arranged for Gladys, with her having her nails shaped and painted as well as spending the morning having her hair set and favourite songs playing in the background. Furthermore, there was of course party banners and, most importantly, a cake!

The ‘Queen’ certainly appeared to have a wonderful day and was elated with the cake and presents.

Nicola said, “We wanted Gladys to celebrate her birthday in style.”

Home Manager, Rebecca Asprey, remarked, “Gladys had a lovely day and Colleagues were pleased to make it so special for her.”
