Upcycled tin cans turned into plant pots at Burntwood care homeWith HC-One’s upcoming gardening competition, Chaseview care home in Staffordshire had decided to create some plant pots, but it was how they went about that idea that was really quite creative!

Paige Chapman, Wellbeing Coordinator, organised for some empty tin cans from the kitchen to be delivered to her and then upcycled them by sanding them down and spray painting them bright colours.

After that, an activity was put on for the Residents who had a fantastic time practicing their gardening skills and potting some bedding plants, including pansies.

The finished pots were then screwed on the corner fence in the garden that was lacking a bit of colour, now it has these gorgeous flowers and is a lovely place to go and admire them.

Paige commented, “We have really enjoyed doing this and we have decided we are going to make some more for other areas around the gardens as they are so effective”.

We have already had lots of compliments from relatives when doing social distanced garden visits as they have said how different it looks. Such a simple and easy idea!”

The Residents including Gillian Tomkins, Myron Tabara, Kath Ball, Sylvia Ward, Harry Green and Betty Horton really enjoyed themselves, and enjoyed seeing their work come together outside.

One had said, "(It is lovely to do some gardening. I cannot wait to see what they look like outside"

Another remarked, "Beautiful, makes it so much brighter and cheery".

Home Manager of Chaseview, Jennifer Khadoo, said, “What a lovely idea this was and really well done to Colleagues and Residents for their hard work.”
