2022/23 Mid-Year Update

We are proud to continue investing in both our people and our environments, to keep improving the quality of life for those in our care and supporting them to lead their best life.

Our aim is to be the kindest care home provider, and along the way to be the first choice to those we care for, their families, Colleagues and Commissioners, serving at the heart of each of our communities.

On our journey to meeting these goals, so far this year we are pleased that:

We welcomed over 3,000 new care Colleagues to HC-One, successfully recruiting and working to meet demand.

We are investing £32.5m in Colleague pay during 2023, and this investment brings 75% of our workforce to Real Living Wage or above, with all care Colleagues able to earn the Real Living Wage after two years of service.

We are mid-way through our £93 million refurbishment and upgrade programme for over 200 of our homes, with refurbishments completed at over 100 homes. This is the largest ever care home upgrade programme in the NHS and Local Authority funded care home sector.

Our New Build programme continues as we seek to introduce more state of the art, purpose-built homes. This recently includes the topping out ceremony at our new care home in Oswestry.

We were a winner in Carehome.co.uk’s Top 20 Large Care Home Group Awards for 2023, run by independent care home comparison website, carehome.co.uk. In addition, 24 HC-One care homes were named as being among the Top 20 care homes in their respective regions, the highest number of successful homes HC-One has had to date for a second consecutive year.

We have maintained our rating of 9.4 out of 10 by our Families on carehome.co.uk making us one of the most highly rated care providers in the UK.

We launched our first Specialist Dementia Care Community (SDCC) which pioneers a new therapeutic approach in caring for people who are emotionally distressed by their dementia.

Occupancy remained largely flat at 85% over the winter, putting us ahead of our sub-sector, and in line with the overall market. Since the Spring, supported by strong recruitment and improving retention, we have grown occupancy by 4% in the latest quarter and are now growing ahead of the market.

As we continue into FY22-23 and beyond, we are intent on being the kindest care home provider, delivering high quality care across our communities and continuing to invest in our Colleagues and environments.
