North East Development Chef shortlisted as finalist at the Great British Care Awards 2022Chris Bonner, Development Chef at HC-One has been successful in being shortlisted as a finalist at the Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for the North East region in ‘The Workforce Development Award’ Category.

Chris was nominated for the award by Mark Meacham, Head of Catering and Housekeeping Support Services at HC-One, due to Chris using his catering industry experience of over 25 years to grow and train Chefs across HC-One on a daily basis with his inspirational approach to food. His understanding of the critical role that food and nutrition plays in the life of Residents living in care homes plays a vital part in being able to achieve this. Chris holds regular training workshops and is always available to assist and provide advice to catering Colleagues working in HC-One homes. 

Chris has demonstrated incredible enthusiasm and determination in identifying training and development needs of care Colleagues, has established rolling training programmes, works with external agencies such as Vegetarian for Life to ensure a special diets program is provided for a variety of complex dietary requirement including cultural and religious, vegan and vegetarian, as well as creates and delivers a huge amount of innovative training to others. 

Chris Bonner, finalist of ‘The Workforce Development Award’ category, said:

The Great British Care Awards 2022, North East Regional Awards will take place on Thursday 10th November 2022 at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park in Newcastle where the winners will be announced. The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK and celebrate achievements of individuals across the care sector.  Winners of the regional awards will progress to the Great British Care Awards 2023 National Finals taking place on Friday 17th March 2023.

“Being named as a finalist acknowledges Chris’ hard work and the kind care he has shown to his Colleagues and Residents living in our care homes, as well as the dedication and passion he shows every day to ensure the people he supports receive the best quality care. The awards highlight Chris’ and the other finalists acts of kindness, the great work they are doing in our care homes and provide us with a chance to say thank you to them for the selfless work they continue to do every single day.”


HC-One has twenty finalists in total at the Great British Care Awards, Regional Awards for the North East region this year. The finalists were chosen in recognition of their hard work and kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion they show every day to ensure the people they support receive the best quality care.
