A new Resident sewing club is set up at Harnham CroftResidents at Harnham Croft care home, in Salisbury, Wilshire, have started a new sewing club.

Eileen, Barbara, Lynn, Gill, Linda, Kay and Susan who live at the 38-bed residential and nursing care home, all have a love for sewing. Eileen made her daughter’s wedding dresses, Barbara used to make her children’s school uniform and Linda used to make all sorts of cuddly teddies.

The Residents in the sewing club have decided to make patch work quilts to donate to the local homeless charity, as well as some teddies for the neonatal unit at the local hospital or the women’s refuge.

Barbara’s daughter Ann, who used to do lace making for years in the past, volunteers to join the sewing club to help. Ann has been teaching the group how to make lace, to which Eileen said, “You’re never too old to try something new and I can’t wait to try it! I’m not as good as I used to be with the sewing machine as I haven’t used one for many years, but I was shocked by how well I managed to do, I’m very happy with the teddy bear I made.”

Residents are enjoying the sewing club as it brings back so many good memories of the younger days, when many of them sewed their own clothes.

Kay, said, “It has been a lovely afternoon and sewing keeps your mind and fingers working, I cannot wait for next week.”

Kim, Head Housekeeper at Harnham Croft, remarked, “The sewing club is now growing in members and the Residents look forward to Wednesday afternoons. So far, we have completed multiple teddies, all different colours and sizes.”
“They are also using materials that have been donated to Harnham Croft by family members to start working on our patch work quilts.”
“All the Residents are thoroughly enjoying the sewing club and are now thinking of a name for it.”
