Spring has got off to a great start at HC-One’s
Chandlers Ford care home, in Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, as Residents have been celebrating Easter with a coffee morning and also took part in a quiz as part of the wellbeing activities.
On 8th April, family and friends of the 41-bed residential and nursing care home were invited to join Residents and Colleagues for an Easter coffee morning, with cakes and hot cross buns.
Held in the home’s main lounge, many Relatives attended and assisted their loved ones to make and decorate chocolate cakes, music was playing, and many took part in a fun sing-song session.
One of the Residents remarked, “I enjoyed talking with other Relatives and the singing made it an enjoyed morning.”
The home’s ‘cake-making trolly’, which had hot cross buns, melted chocolate, rice crispy, cornflakes and decorations, made its way around the home for all the Residents to have a go at the easter-themed activity.
Relatives commented on the cheerful atmosphere. Residents had fun while building their cakes and enjoyed the social atmosphere. One Relative said, “It was lovely to see my mum smile and laugh.”
Following on, on 15th April, the weekly quiz was held. This has been running for a few weeks and has become very popular with some regular attendees from the home.
Julie, Ann, Pauline, Agnes, Peter and Alan, who all live at the welcoming and friendly care home, come together once a week for a general knowledge quiz.
Peter was previously a scientist, and he thoroughly enjoys the weekly meetings which always finish with a talk from Peter, who goes into detail around the history or science in the questions. All other attendees find his explanations fascinating and are very keen to listen.
The attendees then choose the topics for the following weeks quiz. Everyone appreciates the variety of questions.
Siobhan, Wellbeing Coordinator, said, “The quiz is always a great get together involving laughs, brain-training, and teamwork. Residents love the intellectual discussions and time spent together and continue to talk about the quiz during dinner.”
Lucy Hilferty, Care Home Manager, commented, “Easter joy was truly spread, and it was lovely to see our Residents in a busy and social environment.”
“The quiz was also a very fun session. It was a great team exercise and great for the mind too!”
