Residents at
Greenways Court, residential and residential dementia care home in Consett have been busy this month already and they aren’t even half way through it.
To start the month, one of the lovely Residents, Catherine, wanted to do a spot of shopping to get some new cloths ready for the warmer weather.
The first shop she chose to take a browse in was Matalan, where Catherine got lots of lovely new items for her wardrobe. Residents Maureen and Margaret went along too for a little trip out.
The ladies stopped off at Morrisons café for a spot of lunch and bought some wool so they could continue knitting their blankets for the Salvation Army.
Catherine, Maureen ana Margaret were pleased with their purchases and enjoyed getting out in the fresh air.
Later in the week, Alan T, Alan M, Maureen and Janet took a trip to Lyndzford Garden Centre to take a look at beautiful flowers and plants.
The Residents were shocked as they came across a plant costing £599.99! It looked like a hedge cut into pompom shapes and the Residents discussed how they couldn’t believe you could buy a plant for so much!
Alan was shocked by the cost of the plan, he exclaimed, “I wouldn’t pay £5 for the plant never mind £599.99 it was awful!”
The trip was very successful as the Residents chose two new plants to be situated at the front door. Of course, the Residents enjoyed a cup of tea and cream cake in the garden centre café! It was a lovely day had by all Residents.
Furthermore, the knitting group which started last month has really taken off with both Residents and Relatives taking the time to knit square for the blankets.
Already six blankets have been made and each of the Residents have gone at their own pace to contribute to each of the lovely blankets.
As there are already some blankets made, they are ready to be handed over to the Salvation Army Office who regularly visits Greenways Court. Residents thought the blankets could be given to those in need, especially in the colder weather.
Jean, of the Residents who has been knitting, remarked, “It was mostly my daughter who did them, she has always knitted, and was happy to do them for us.”
The ladies are going to continue knitting and see how many blankets they can make.
Kinga Kowaliczek, Care Home Manager, remarked, “The Residents have had so much fun in May already. We have so much more planned too!”
