Residents and Colleagues from
Snapethorpe Hall care home in Lupset, Wakefield, had a lovely day out visiting Wakefield Cathedral.
At the beginning of August, some of the Residents from the care home took a trip out to the local cathedral in Wakefield. The cathedral is located in the centre of Wakefield on top of the hill in Kirkgate.
A voluntary tour guide had lots of knowledge of the history going back to the 17th century. The cathedral was built on the site of a Anglo-Saxon church and was mentioned in the Doomsday Book.
The Residents loved having the tour of the cathedral. The tour guide had so many facts and one of them was the running costs per day were a whopping £1750!
The history of the cathedral was really interesting and the Residents loved hearing all about it. There were some beautiful stained glass windows which the Residents were mesmerised by!
One of the Residents, commented, “What a beautiful building and it is right on our doorstep!”
