Blacon care home celebrates award-winning music therapy with schoolchildren

A care home in Blacon has launched a heartwarming music therapy programme in partnership with Dee Point Primary School.

The fortnightly sessions bring together residents at HC-One’s Lauren Court Care Home, in Blacon, Chester, and the young pupils for shared musical experiences designed to uplift and connect.

The sessions, facilitated by the acclaimed Live the Beat organisation under Amanda Wrigley’s leadership, have sparked joy among residents. Sessions are now hosted in a larger lounge to accommodate growing interest from pupils’ parents eager to join.

The collaboration builds on a strong bond between Lauren Court and Dee Point, where residents and pupils already exchange letters as pen pals and enjoy regular school choir performances.

Racheal Ashman, HC-One’s Lauren Court Care Home Manager, said:

“We are always looking at new ways to support our residents, and having seen previously how much of a positive impact music can have on older people I was excited to see how Live the Beat’s sessions would go down.

“The response was fantastic! The lounge was packed out with residents, and the children from Dee Point School interacted with the residents beautifully. We have a really great relationship with Dee Point School, including having several residents who have pen pals with pupils there.

“They often come to sing for us as well, which is always lovely. We're so pleased to be continuing with the fortnightly music therapy sessions and have had to move to a larger lounge now as the parents of the children are also asking to come in and get involved!”
