Cessnock care home Resident celebrates 103rd birthdayIt’s been a very special week for one Resident at HC-One’s Ailsa Craig care home in Cessnock, Glasgow, as she celebrated her 103rd birthday and shared her secrets to a long life.

Elizabeth Simm, pictured, turned 103, on the 28th November and celebrate such a special birthday at the 90-bed nursing and nursing dementia care home, along with fellow Residents and family members.

Born on the 28th November 1919 in Donegal Ireland, Elizabeth worked on a farm in the early years of her life then moved onto being a typist for the war office in London. She married the love of her life James in 1942 back in her hometown Donegal. She is well travelled as she has previous lived in many different places including Canada and New York.

Elizabeth is very family orientated, she has three sons, Victor, Graham and James. She then has 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren who she loves dearly.

To celebrate Elizabeth’s birthday, she was joined by her family to enjoy a lovely afternoon tea at a local hotel. Her room was decorated with banners and balloons to make her day extra special.

She had a lovely afternoon and received lots of lovely gifts. Colleagues at the care home gifted Elizabeth a beautiful bouquet of flowers which she said were beautiful.

When asked about what her secret is to a long life, Elizabeth said:

“Spending time with your family, good living and regularly treating yourself to a fish supper.”

Lynsey Armstrong, Care Home Manager, remarked:

“Elizabeth had a lovely birthday surrounded by all her friends and family. It is lovely we can all celebrate her birthday together!”
