Getting creative at Chippenham care homeEveryone at Avon Court care home, in Rowden Hill, Chippenham, love to show their creative flair and try out some arts and crafts, so this month they’ve been upcycling donated items, and creating a brand new activities pack for Residents.

On 11th March, a bit of upcycling was carried out at Avon Court when hundreds of unwanted DVDs had been donated to the care home. As many of them were the same titles, the home decided to put them to use and decorate some of the walls to brighten the home up.

A creative workshop was therefore scheduled where Residents and Colleagues made paper petals and glued them to the DVDs to make flowers. These were then put up on the home’s walls, just in time for spring!

Visiting Relatives and Colleagues all commented on how they brightened up the home. Residents Daphne, Vera and Jan all said they were beautiful!

Carers Ronnell and Emily (pictured) both agreed that they loved the newly decorated dining room.

And the creativity has only continued throughout the month when Wellbeing Coordinator Lyn Neate, and fellow Colleagues, decided to make a folder for each activities room, which contains pens, colouring pencils, crosswords, wordsearches and the weekly programme of activities for Residents to sift through and have a look at what they can do.

Residents agreed that it was a nice idea, including Janet Moore (pictured), who lives at the 56-bed residential, nursing and nursing dementia care home, and said, “I love a good wordsearch!”
