HC-One care homes across the UK have taken part in a number of events and activities to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October to raise money for charity and awareness of the condition.
Park House care home in Guisborough, Redcar, took part in a ‘Wear It Pink’ Day for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Colleagues and residents wore pink clothes and held a coffee morning which included a cake stall, a bottle tombola, guess the name of the teddy and guess the number of sweets in the jar to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Charity. Colleagues and residents also took the opportunity to raise awareness of Breast Cancer to visitors to the home and had support items including Breast Cancer Awareness badges and wrist bands, which colleagues and visitors purchased to wear on the day. The home raised a total of £278.77 throughout the day which was donated to Breast Cancer UK.
At Winters Park care home in Penrith, Cumbria, residents, relatives and colleagues at the home took part in ‘Wear It Pink’ Day by wearing pink all day and night to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The home also organised a karaoke day where residents joined in and were entertained by listening to colleagues sing along to classic songs, whilst enjoying pink cakes, biscuits and hot drinks. The home raised £120 which will be donated to Breast Cancer Now Charity.
At Augustus Court care home in Leeds, West Yorkshire, have marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month by decorating the home to host a Breast Cancer Awareness Day event. The home was decorated with pink tablecloths and balloons, and colleagues and residents wore pink for the occasion. Refreshments were provided including cupcakes with pink icing. Colleagues and residents also took part in a Breast Cancer Awareness quiz, and finished off the day with a karaoke session which residents and colleagues thoroughly enjoyed.
