Highgate care home Residents try out more Tiktok trendsResidents at Highgate, nursing and nursing dementia care home, in Uddingston, have been using Tiktok to find new activities to do together.

Janine, Wellbeing Coordinator, has been looking at different activities on Tiktok and found a challenge to balance balls along different surfaces.

Residents had to balance a small light plastic ball along a resistance band, a Resident was holding each end of the resistance band, it took a lot on concentration, balance and determination
some upbeat music was playing to get the Residents moving, even some Residents that were watching were getting involved by shouting encouragement before they plucked up the courage to have a shot themselves.

Laura, Deputy Manager, remarked, “It looked like a good activity that lots of Residents got involved in and loved.”

Another new activity which the Residents tried was ‘football pump fitness’.

Residents used fruit scented small rubber balls and used hand pumps to pump up the balls. Many of the Residents participated, some with the help of fellow Residents and Colleagues.

Races were held to see who could do it the fastest, and if Residents could pump it all the way up.
This was quite a simple effective physical activity that the Residents enjoyed, and they felt as if they were helping out, everyone was laughing as they could feel their muscles and arms getting tired.

There was lots of competition throughout the games and the Residents really enjoyed getting involved.

Charlene Curtis, Care Home Manager, said, “The concentration and determination when playing was phenomenal.”
