Home-grown tomatoes are a hit at Bishopsgate Lodge care homeThe gardening club at Bishopsgate Lodge, based in County Durham has had a brilliant harvest this year, which in particular has produced a bumper crop of tomatoes.

After a mediocre year of gardening last year, both the staff and the Residents at Bishopsgate are thrilled with this year’s crops and the progress that has been made.

Colleague Lesley, at Bishopsgate Lodge, said: “Our gardening club has worked so hard this year caring for the things that they have planted, whether edible and for our kitchen or just to cheer up the garden!”

“Well done to all Residents involved!”

The gardening club has this year gone from strength to strength and this can really be seen, and tasted, in the quality of the food grown.

The tomatoes grown this year have so far been used to make ‘scrumptious tomato sandwiches’ so that everyone can have a taste of what has been produced by the gardening club.

Peri Chef Andy who often creates meals from what has been grown by the gardening club will be making a homemade tomato soup for all to enjoy.

Some of the members of the gardening club are John Parker, Heather Linsley and Judy Mullier who both said that they ‘can’t wait to try the soup!’
