Home Managers working together in the Northwich community for dementia friendly coffee morningMany of the Northwich care homes, which are owned by HC-One, are situated within the Northwich area of Cheshire, including Daneside Mews and Acorn Meadow. These homes have been working together to get out and about in the local community and invite people in to attend their dementia friendly monthly coffee morning.

On 2nd May Nikki Vernon, Home Manager at Daneside Mews, and Steve McCarthy, Home Manager of Acorn Meadow, were invited to appear on live radio for ‘Radio Northwich’ to discuss a new dementia friendly coffee morning that has been set up for the local community.

Throughout the show, Residents, Colleagues and Relatives tuned into the station and loved listening on the radio. Many of the Residents joked that both Nikki and Steve, “Are famous now!”

Nikki commented, “I was very nervous going on the radio, but it was great fun and amazing to get to talk about the good work that all the staff do out to the public.”

The day after a dementia friendly morning took place, with the aim of supporting the local community and people and families who are living with dementia.

There was coffee and tea, cake, music, dancing, chatting and lots of laughter.

Nikki and Steve were on hand to talk to people and offer support and advice as well as having information and signposting to services that can offer support.

One of the attendees commented, “Thank you for all this information, my dad has just been diagnosed with dementia and it is very daunting and a scary time for us all.”

The coffee morning was a huge success and will be held at Acorn Meadow care home on the first Wednesday of every month between 10am and 12pm.

Nikki added, “The buzz was just awesome, the smiles, the chatter… we just want this to go from strength to strength.”
