As a craft activity, Residents at
Clarendon Hall residential and nursing care home, just outside of Grimsby, made poppies in readiness for their Remembrance service.
Residents made beautiful poppies which helped to make an altar that they could display wreaths, poppies for the wall and lapel poppies on.
One of the Residents Betty Burkinshaw, and Wellbeing Coordinator Hayley planned the Remembrance service together. There was some reminiscence about the war and their families, and they looked at old photos together.
The service then followed the cenotaph. Hayley read the poem ‘Flanders Field’ and then ‘The Last Post’ was played. A couple of Residents laid wreaths at the altar.
Hayley remarked, “It felt to everyone that went to the service that they had attended a proper service. Everyone enjoyed the music and prayers.”
Betty added, “Tt went swimmingly and was respectful to the day.”
Home Manager Nicola Walker, commented, “The remembrance altar is a lovely way of remembering the fallen and the service was perfect.”
