For the lead up to Valentine’s Day, Residents and Colleagues at
Roby House care home, in Huyton, which offers nursing care, have been participating in love and romance themed activities.
Charles Buttle, Wellbeing Coordinator, and other Colleagues organised a variety of different activities to get involved in, including a ‘Residents Relationship Advice Board’, crafting, a Valentine’s themed guitar set performance and the kitchen team catered for a Valentine’s Menu.
Senior Care Assistant, Carol-Ann Cole, had a wonderful idea to ask Residents and staff their advice for what makes a good relationship, and the response they had was amazing.
Charles commented, “We had answers from 'laughter', 'loyalty' to 'stay single'. This was brilliant for our Residents, because it promoted social interaction through the home and gave everyone the chance to share personal stories of their lives before.”
“With the answers we received it just goes to show that love is love.”
As well as this, people at the home let their creative sparks fly and whipped out the paintbrushes. Residents designed gorgeous heart-shaped coasters and displays for the home. Everyone was incredibly proud of them and thought they looked stunning.
Kitchen Manager Paul Jones created a custom menu for the day which consisted of custom fairy cakes and shortbread for afternoon tea.
The Kitchen team commented, “"We were very excited to be preparing a new and unique menu and we're thrilled that our Residents will be able to try something different and interesting. We're over the moon with all of the positive feedback we have received.”
The team received amazing feedback from everyone, saying they enjoyed trying something a little bit different and the kitchen team had an absolute blast exploring their different skillsets to pull off a spectacular mealtime experience.
One of the Residents commented, ““We have enjoyed experiencing a different menu with creative and tasty meal options.”
And of course, no Valentine’s Day is complete without a gorgeous red rose Colleagues ensured that all of Residents felt special and each received a single red rose to keep or give to a special someone.
Charles added, “It's safe to say, there is plenty of ‘Love In The Air’ at Roby House and we have had tons of fun, coming together as a home.”
Sarah Gashi, Home Managed, remarked, “Residents had a lovely day in the home and have thoroughly enjoyed the activities plan, not just on the day itself but through the start of the month.”
