Newton Aycliffe care home staff shortlisted for Great British Care AwardsHC-One’s Defoe Court care home in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, a 41-bed residential and nursing care home, has been shortlisted for two awards at Great British Care Awards 2022 for the North East region. 

Defoe Court’s care team have been shortlisted for The Care Team Award. The Defoe Court care team consistently develop innovative ways to drive up their standards, skills and expertise for the benefit of Residents. Key workers are embedded into the home - each Resident decides who they want their key worker to be, based on the relationships that Residents have with Colleagues. This works extremely well at Defoe Court. 

Julie Loscombe has been shortlisted for The Ancillary Worker Award. Julie is a Senior Housekeeper at Defoe Court and has been the definition of a team player throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to every area of home life. Going above and beyond as always, Julie also involves Residents with infection control, providing them with a full explanation of why certain things are happening around the home, ensuring everyone is confident and fully supported with regard to infection control.

The nominations for the awards are recognition of their hard work and kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion they show every day to ensure the people they support receive the best quality care.

Area Director, Hazel Southern, who nominated both the care team and Julie Loscombe for the award, said:

Kim Williams, who is a Relative at the home said:

“Defoe Court staff are nothing short of amazing. I rarely refer to them as staff, as they feel like family and care for their Residents like they are their own family. Their love, care and attentiveness come from the heart, and I will be forever grateful to them.”

The Great British Care Awards consist of 23 awards, which cover a wide range of areas of the social care sector. The awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK and are a celebration of distinction across the care sector. The awards pay tribute to those who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their area of work. The award ceremony of the Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for the North East region takes place at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park, in Newcastle on Thursday 10th November 2022 when the winners will be announced. Successful winners at the North East regional awards will progress to the national finals of the Great British Care Awards 2023 taking place on Friday 17th March 2023 at the ICC in Birmingham.

In total 20 HC-One Colleagues have been shortlisted for the Great British Care Awards in the North East region including HC-One who are a finalist in the Care Employer Award Category.
