HC-One’s Brookdale View care home – located in Newton Heath, Manchester – has been celebrating National Pet Month throughout April by highlighting a ‘lovable’ cat who brings much-needed support to the lives of residents and their loved ones every day.
Brookdale View residents and colleagues showed their appreciation for Dillon, a 16-year-old Tabby cat, who has lived in the home for several years and used Pet Month to commemorate all the joy that he brings to residents.
National Pet Month is a campaign run by the National Office of Animal Health – which dedicates 30-days from April 1, 2024 – to raise awareness of the importance of being a responsible pet owner. Having a pet in a home can offer many benefits to the elderly, including therapeutic care, and it can highlight the value that assistance companion animals bring.
Residents can improve their wellbeing and social interaction by engaging with pets. Dillon’s presence in the home makes a significant difference to residents and colleagues at Brookdale View on a daily basis.
Amanda Healey, Activities Co-ordinator at Brookdale View, revealed that Dillion is much-loved by residents across the home. She stated that Dillon enjoys interacting with residents, particularly those who give him attention.

“Our residents love Dillon, he sits on residents’ beds, and they enjoy stroking him. Dillon loves the attention he gets from colleagues, residents, and visitors. When the weather is nice, he loves to sit outside in the garden enjoying the sunshine and rolling around.”

“Dillon sits on my bed, and I always stroke him. He makes me happy; he is great company and very lovable."
