Resident interviews potential new staff at Durham care homeThis January at HC-One’s Melbury Court nursing, general residential and residential memory care home, in County Durham, Resident Lucy has been helping Colleagues conduct interviews for potentially new staff.

Lucy O Shaughnessy, pictured, has been a Resident at Melbury Court for over three years and has stepped up to the role of Interview Champion! Lucy completed her first successful interview on 28th January with support from the Home Manager and Home Administrator. Lucy was provided with the interview questions and help facilitate the interview.

Whilst enjoying a lovely coffee, Lucy completed the interview and asked very productive questions. She has been provided with her very own interview diary and uniform and will chair Residents’ meetings to feedback to other Residents about new employees. Lucy will also support other Residents to help facilitate future interviews and will become the 'you asked, and we did' representative for the home.

When asked about how she felt during the interview, Lucy remarked, “Completing interviews makes me feel on top of the world, this is my home and I want to know who is going to be working here.”

“I enjoyed the laughter during this interview and getting to know the candidate, what an amazing experience. I am looking forward to getting to know a lot of people and having a purpose within my home.”

Beth Morrow, Care Home Manager, commented, “It was amazing to hear Lucy ask questions to the candidates and feel involved with the process, person-centred care at its finest.”
