Resident knits for charity at Cold Springs Park care homeOne Resident at Cold Springs Park, residential and residential dementia care home, in Penrith, loves to knit and her skills have allowed her to help out charities.

Resident Irene Tod spends all day knitting and has been knitting for her whole life.

She has worked extremely hard to make over 1000 small hats for babies and children which her daughter has sent out to Zambia. It was a contact made through the Church, a lady who had recently retired from working out there gave Irene the idea.

Both Residents and Colleagues thought it was wonderful thing to do and to get positive feedback from the children and parents who have received the hats.

Each family were given three little hats for their babies.

Irene has been making squares too and 18 blankets have been sewn together and the blankets have been sold to raise funds for a horse charity.

Irene, has loved knitting for such an amazing cause, she said, “I just love knitting and it is so wonderful they have been used.”

Jacqueline Johnstone, Care Home Manager, commented, “It is so lovely that Irene has done and seeing the hats being used is amazing.”
