Residents at Highclere care home enjoy MP visitHighclere care home in Milton Keynes was visited on 2nd February by MP for Milton Keynes North, Ben Everitt.

Residents and colleagues of the HC-One owned care home enjoyed meeting Mr Everitt and chatting to him about what life is like at Highclere care home – which is an integral part of the local Milton Keynes community.

Mr Everitt received a tour of the 39-bed residential, nursing and residential dementia care home, which has been recently refurbished and includes a sensory room, hydrotherapy bath and landscaped garden.

During his tour, Mr Everitt stopped for a cup of tea with residents and talked with them about various issues such as mobile dentists and hearing clinics. He also spent time discussing potential changes to social care funding and HC-One’s plans for further investment in the area.

The MP visit was particularly enjoyed by Highclere resident Jack Varnham, who had been eagerly looking forward to meeting Mr Everitt. Mr Varnham, who has a keen interest in astronomy, showed off his collection of astronomy resources and a picture of himself with famous astronomer Sir Patrick Moore to the Milton Keynes MP.

Mr Varnham said:

“I was thrilled to share my astronomy work with Mr Everitt during his visit to our care home.

It was an incredible opportunity to meet our local MP, and the photo we took together will become a cherished memory. His genuine interest made me feel valued and appreciated.”

Gigi Jacobs, Home Manager at Highclere care home, commented:

“As the manager of Highclere care home, I was honoured to welcome Ben Everitt MP to our facility today. His visit underscores the importance of collaboration between our care home and our local government.

We had valuable discussions on the critical role of quality care in our community and the need for continued support for our elderly residents. We appreciate Ben taking the time to engage with our team and witness firsthand the dedication and compassion that defines our care home.

This visit reaffirms our commitment to providing exceptional care, and we look forward to working together to enhance the well-being of our residents and contribute to the broader community's welfare.”

Ben Everitt, MP for Milton Keynes North, stated:

“I had a lovely time meeting residents at Highclere Care Home in Downs Barn and I simply have to mention the wonderful Jack who was so excited to show me his amazing model of the solar system.

“You could really feel the sense of community the staff and residents have created and it was extremely valuable to speak to them about some of the challenges they face.”
