Riverside View care home Resident has his dreams come true to fly a planeHenry Deick, a Resident at HC-One’s Riverside View had this lifelong dream come true of flying a plane this August when Colleagues of the Dundee care home arranged the flying lesson for him.

Henry Deick, who is 81 years old was born in Dundee and is married to his lovely wife Liz and has 7 children and many grandchildren. He was born in Dundee and then moved to London for a period before moving back to his hometown in later years.

Henry is always up for helping at the nursing and nursing dementia care home and has recently completed a sponsored walk walking 10,000 steps to raise money for the Residents comfort fund.
Whilst completing his walk with Wellbeing Coordinator, Ailsa Gordan, they passed Dundee Airport. Henry mentioned to Ailsa that he has always wished that he could fly a plane and wondered what it would be like.
With the help from Ailsa and Home Manager Clair McDonald, they contacted the flying school and made Henry’s wishes come true.

On the 5th of September, Henry and his son Derick Deick, set off to Dundee Airport and met with Tayside Aviation for the plane ride. Henry was so excited and just wanted to take flight.
The plane flew over the whole of Dundee and he was able to see Monkie, Brought Ferry and the Low Hill. The views were spectacular, Henry didn’t want this amazing experience to end.

Henry arrived back on the ground after the amazing flying lesson and told everyone about the fantastic experience he had. He remarked:
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and to have my son fly with me was a memory of a lifetime.”
Clair McDonald, Home Manager at Riverside View, said:
“It was amazing to make Henry’s dreams come true of flying the aircraft.”
