There has been lots going on at
Defoe Court, residential and nursing care home in Newton Aycliffe.
One Resident living at Defoe Court has a true passion for writing poems. Rita who moved into the care home had a huge box of poems which she had written over the years.
Rita was very proud of the poems she has written and was excited to read her poems to all the Residents, Colleagues and Relatives.
Home Manager, Sarah Todd contacted Anthony Knight, Graphic Designer at HC-One in July 2022 and asked if would be able to support to help turn these poems into a book so Rita and her family could cherish them forever.
On the 22nd of December Rita received these poems in a hardback book and she was lost for words. Without Anthony Knights support this would not be possible.
Rita said all her dreams have come true and she is so proud to show her poems off to everyone.
She was so thrilled, she remarked, “I was totally lost for her words for such a kind gesture. I will cherish this forever.”
Sarah, added, “The look on Rita’s face was beautiful and Rita is never lost for words! The kindness Anthony has shown to do this for one of our Residents is amazing.”
Then, throughout the month of November, Colleagues and visitors have been voting for the Colleague Awards in a number of different categories.
The winners of the awards were announced and Colleagues were thrilled to have won such fantastic awards.
