Spreading Christmas cheer at Defoe Court care homeChristmas is here at Defoe Court care home in Newton Aycliffe, and the Residents have been enjoying getting in the festive spirit.

On the 2nd of December, both Residents and Colleagues at the residential and nursing home all joined together to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.

Everyone has a blast getting dressed up as elves and Residents enjoyed the catwalk to showcase all the Christmas outfits. All Residents voted on the best dressed.

Both Colleagues and Residents joined together in teams and enjoyed the bog elf quiz together and ended the day with an elf feast of cakes, chocolates, and creamy hot chocolate.

Gordon, a Resident, said, “I have really enjoyed today it has been great, what a great way to kick off the Christmas festivities.”

Another Resident, said, “We enjoyed today, so much was happening. The laughter could be heard all around the home all day!”

The on the 12th of December, a fantastic donation was made to the home from a local gentleman.

Brian Nichol is a photographer in the town and donates his time regularly to come along and take pictures for the Residents. All he asks is for a donation of the printed photos, as he donates this money to a local charity.

Brain contacted the home and asked if he could donate money to the Residents fund to put towards a Christmas party for all our Residents.

It was such a thoughtful gesture, and everyone was so grateful.

Sarah Todd, Care Home Manager, said, “I’m continued to be blown away by the support of the community. It was such a kind gesture to make.”
