For International Men’s Day, Residents from
Falstone Manor, residential, nursing and nursing dementia care home, in Roker, enjoyed a day out supporting their favourite football team.
This year for International Men’s Day, Colleagues took some of the male Residents for a tour of Sunderland’s football stadium, the Stadium of Light.
On the day of the tour the Residents were all excited as they are all big football fans.
When they arrived at the stadium, they met the tour guide John who was very welcoming, and he started the tour. John took everyone to lots of different parts of the stadium such as all the different bars, the private boxes, the press room and the manager’s room.
They even got to see both the visitors and Sunderland’s team changing rooms where the Residents got the opportunity to get their photo taking with some of the players shirts, and the Residents even got to walk down the Sunderland tunnel that led out onto the pitch.
Each part of the stadium that the Resident saw, John had a lot of knowledge about the history of it all which the Residents loved to hear about.
John was a great tour guide, he said, “It was lovely to have some of the Residents from Falstone Manor here today. They were a lovely bunch of lads, and I was very impressed with the amount of knowledge they had about Sunderland.”
George, one of the Residents who went along for the tour, remarked, “I have had a brilliant day today. I have been a Sunderland fan all my life so this was a dream come true for me and an opportunity I never thought I’d get at my age.”
Emma Hindmarsh, Care Manager, added, “It was an amazing morning for them all and the stadium did an amazing job for us. We would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone at the Stadium of Light for having us, especially John who was an amazing tour guide and did an amazing job.”
