As summer winds down, HC-One’s Hambleton Grange Care Home in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, delighted residents with a joyful return to cycling, thanks to an inspiring partnership with the innovative organisation, Get Cycling.
Determined to help residents rediscover the thrill of biking, Hambleton Grange Care Home teamed up with Get Cycling, a group dedicated to providing a diverse range of bicycles tailored to all abilities. On the day of the event, Neil from Get Cycling arrived with a van full of specially adapted bikes, ready to get everyone moving.
Residents eagerly embraced the opportunity, taking to the bikes with enthusiasm and delight. From first-timers to those who hadn’t ridden in decades, the event sparked smiles and laughter throughout the morning.
Elaine Snowden, HC-One’s Hambleton Grange Lifestyle Manager, stated:
“It was fantastic to see so many residents wanting to take part and thoroughly enjoying the experience, with many coming back for second and third rides. Cycling is certainly an activity we plan to repeat.”
Resident Mary Fidell shared:
“It was a wonderful experience – I haven’t ridden a bike for over 50 years.”
Resident Judy Lancaster said:
“It was great! I didn’t want to get off – I could have ridden all day. It was so much fun!”
Resident Ruth Studholm enjoyed a tandem ride with her daughter Sarah Hirst, saying:
“It was great. I loved being outside.”
