Three Wakefield Colleagues shortlisted for Awards at the Great British Care AwardsMegan Harding, Bank Worker, Alex Tomlinson-Wood, Head Chef, and Nandi Khosa, Clinical Unit Manager, at HC-One’s Carr Gate care home in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, a 59-bed residential, nursing and residential dementia care home, have been shortlisted as finalists for awards at the Great British Care Awards for the York and Humber region.

The nominations for the awards are in recognition of their hard work and kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion each Colleague shows every day to ensure the people they supports receive the best quality care.

Megan, who is nominated for the Care Newcomer Award, and is also celebrating being a finalist at the National Care Awards too with a nomination for the Newcomer Award Category, joined Carr Gate at 16 years old with no previous experience in a care setting but desperately wanting to work in care. Megan has shown true care, commitment, and dedication in many roles within the home. She has worked as a Housekeeper, Kitchen Assistant, Wellbeing Coordinator, Receptionist and Covid Coordinator in her 7 months of working at Carr Gate. No task is too big or small for her and she happily engages with all of the staff team in a very professional way.

Alex, who is nominated for the Care Chef Award, is a very hard working and dedicated individual. He takes a huge amount of pride in his work and takes the time to speak to Residents to understand their likes and dislikes so that he can provide meals that suit their needs and tastes. The home recently had a Resident who struggled to find foods they enjoyed, so Alex spent a large amount of one-to-one time with this person, fully understanding their diet prior to coming to Carr Gate and built a special menu for them, taking everything into consideration. A true example of person-centred care.

Nandi, who is nominated for the Care Registered Nurse Award, joined as an overseas nurse and very quickly it was seen how hard she worked for the Residents and how much they trusted her. She is described by Colleagues as one of the kindest and caring people they have worked alongside. Nandi has an excellent rapport with all of Residents and Relatives, with many regularly asking if Nandi is on duty; she is often praised her for her hard work and dedication

Home Manager, Amy Brown, who nominated Megan, Alex and Nandi for the awards, said:
“I am very proud that the three Colleagues in the Carr Gate team have been shortlisted for these awards.

Megan is a hardworking, engaging, kind and caring young adult who has a wonderful passion to develop herself and her career and shows commitment to do this.

Alex is a hardworking, dedicated and driven chef. He is eager to learn and improve personally and professionally, and is proud to run a 5-star kitchen.

Nandi is an inspirational, kind, caring and compassionate nurse. Always ready to go the extra mile, is truly dedicated to her role and keeps the resident the focus of everything she does.”
